To all our wonderful, loyal readers, we are so excited to announce that The Vegan Reader Cookbook is now for sale as a digital download here on Vegan Reader. Representing 20+ years of vegan cooking and over two years of fun, hard work putting this one-of-a-kind cooking manual together, it can be ordered today for the affordable cost of just $9.95.
Over the years, hundreds of you have left comments on this blog letting us know that our from-scratch recipes have saved you money, delighted your taste buds and given you the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Now, you can get over 100 of these recipes in one easy download, to be printed and, hopefully, to earn a prized spot on your cookbook shelf. In keeping with our tradition of teaching people the skills they need to provide real food for themselves and their families, The Vegan Reader Cookbook will teach you to make staple foods yourself, instead of depending on factories for their production.
You’ll learn to make your own rice milk, almond milk, sesame cheese, tortillas, polenta bread and so much more. Illustrated with over 60 color photographs, The Vegan Reader Cookbook is like no other vegan cookbook in bookstores or on the web. Why?
It’s 100% Vegan and is Based on Normal, Everyday Ingredients instead of Exotic Oddities
Few grown-up vegans grew up in vegan households. If you’re tired of vegan cookbooks that hinge on peculiar ingredients and seem to think people can live on large helpings of portobello mushrooms and agar agar, you will be delighted with the down-home dishes we prepare every day here on our family farm. Our hearty soups, stews, sandwiches and more will satisfy your craving for real, honest food and will feel familiar to you even if you grew up in a meat-and-potatoes household.
It’s 100% Gluten Free
For those readers who are among the countless people who have received a diagnosis of gluten sensitivity or gluten intolerance, The Vegan Reader Cookbook is gluten-free. Learn to make your own gluten-free tortillas, polenta bread (yay, pizza!) cookies and more. And, even if you’re not on a gluten free diet, these recipes for traditional, whole-grain breads and nut-based cookies will broaden your skills in the kitchen and spark your palette with something new.
It’s 100% Soy Free
Whether you’re allergic to soy or are concerned that your vegan lifestyle has resulted in a too-heavy dependence on soy, you’ll be glad to know that there are no soy-based recipes in this book. Get your protein from a veritable rainbow of inexpensive, delicious of legumes and pulses and don’t miss our amazing recipe for soy-free soy sauce. You won’t believe how dark and tangy it is, and what a cinch to make!
Writing this cookbook has been a labor of love on our farming family’s part. So many readers have asked us if we ever planned to publish our recipes in a single volume, and we sincerely hope the results of our work will bring new dishes to your table, save you money with from-scratch cooking and fill you with pride in the skills you will gain as a provider of food. Nothing could be more important!

I was wondering why there were not more blogs – now I know why.
E-Book ordered. Thanks so much for sharing all those wonderful recipes. I can hardly wait to get into my kitchen and start cooking!
Do you mind if I add a link to this page? I’d love to mention your site – again.
Cheers
Do a lot of the recipes use corn or corn products? My step son has an allergy, and the book sounds amazing!
Hi Melanie,
Our breads are based on corn, yes. It’s a gluten-free cookbook, so this is one of the only grains we can eat. But only the bread recipes and one soup recipe has corn in it, so there would still be more than 100 other corn-free recipes for your family to try. Thanks for asking your question!

Hi Shamantra,
Thank you so much! Yes – this was a big project, so not as much blogging for awhile. I really appreciate your order and would love for you to link to the book from your site. We are grateful for you sharing it. Happy cooking!!!

Will do. It’s a great book. User friendly, great pics and yummy, simple recipes. I will be sending the link to my niece in Los Angeles. She is vegan so I’m sure will be interested, too.
Grats on a great cookbook. Thanks so much for all your hard work.

Congratulations! Do you think you will offer a hard copy of the book at some point or just stick with digital? Best, Claire
Hi Claire,
Thank you so much! We’re getting great feedback so far on the cookbook. We will stick with digital, as we just don’t have the funding to invest in a print book. Hopefully, this way, everyone can get an affordable copy, and if they like to print it out, you can get a book bound at a copy shop for just a couple of dollars. Thanks for asking and for the congratulations!
