Welcome to VeganReader, Shana!

So glad you liked the homeschooling comment. I really am a fan of homeschooling and applaud you in your choice of being your children's #1 teacher. That's truly great.

The Asian pattern books you mention sound really interesting. I haven't seen one of these, but I'm fascinated to hear that the instructions are so simple that even an English speaker can understand them. That's quite a recommendation! It's so nice that you sew for your daughter. My mother sewed for my sisters and myself when I was little and it is she who inspires me with a real love of sewing. She still sews beautiful clothing for herself and is teaching the grandkids, now! I hope you can pass on your skills to your daughter.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and keep up the great work with your family!

At this point, I mostly sew for my daughter, but I recently found a pattern book to make some nice clothing for my sons as well. I have been enthralled with the Japanese pattern books. Even though they are in Japanese, the instructions and patterns are so much simpler than the American Big 3 pattern companies that I find myself turning to them more and more.

I also have to say that I absolutely LOVE this comment:
"If you have children who threaten to die if they aren’t given designer clothing…homeschool them to get rid of such useless, materialistic notions that put the focus on belongings instead of the value of the human person."

I already homeschool my kids, but I just thought this was a great line :)

Your heart-felt statements are expressed with exceeding eloquence and I couldn't agree more. That would be a real revolution!

If we teach skills to our children we are restarting the process of self sufficiency that has been lost. This re-generation might result in a future society of much more human humans, who think for themselves and care about the quality of life on earth rather than the quantity of things to be accumulated. That would be a real revolution.

Thank you for sharing this info and insight. I too should spend more of my time sharing but feel as if I am adrift in a sea of things I need to learn and do in my life and can't possibly do them all. What astounds me the most is how I lived the first twenty something years of my life with my eyes closed to the way this American society has robbed me and my family of knowledge, independence and personal power. I believe that this country was founded on correct principles but too soon after greed began to worm it's way in to every aspect of our society. Today in many ways corporations have more power and authority than government. Anyway, I too am on a quest to regain knowledge that was lost more than three generations ago in my family. My mother is still living and she too shares my passion and vision, as well as my two brothers and their families. Thank you for putting your knowledge and experience out for everyone to see.
