i can barely watch the cdfa videos! that is very disturbing re. antarctica. even moreso than the recent findings in our national parks because you think of antarctica as even more remote. then again, i am still processing the news that china's pollution effects california. i thought a friend with mcs was exaggerating when she said there is nowhere safe for canaries to go.

she found clean air in dunsmuir, south of mt. shasta. i'm not sure i have the heart to tell her they are removing the klamath dam and all communities downriver will feel the effects of that release in the form of dioxin and other chemicals into their rivers and communities.

Update:
A debate over global warming legislation has drawn US senators into a late-night drama, which started when angry Majority Leader Harry Reid demanded senators return to the Capitol for the late-night vote.

After an eight-hour reading of the 492-page bill, it was pointed out there were not enough Republican senators in the chamber for the bill to proceed.

So, after a vote on forcing members back into the chamber, Speaker Reid ordered the sergeant at arms to awaken senators and bring them back to the Capitol.

Reid accused Republicans of 'doing everything in their power to slow, stop and stall' the bill.

The bill, the most ambitious legislation on global warming ever taken up in Congress, would cut carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions by 71 percent.

Hi Donna -
I sure know where you are coming from on this. And I think that the various groups and folks and politicians fighting LBAM should pay the closest attention to people like you who have already lost the assurance of good health. We are reacting so resolutely to the LBAM program because we are horrified to think of the sickness that will be inflicted on people. We don't want anyone to go through what we go through to make it through some days.

I'm really sorry to know of your struggles and can offer not just sympathy but empathy. I understand!

Mim

Hi BPM -
Well that's as scary as heck. Interestingly, some of the effects of global warming are not unprecedented on planet Earth. The end of the last major ice age caused the ocean levels to rise in a way that really changed the landscape of the planet and altered human and animal habitation areas.

The difference, of course, is that the last melt down was not full of man-made chemicals, and it sounds like this one is. Really troubling.

Oh, our poor, beautiful world. Every country in ever corner of the earth should be turning 100% of their skills, brains and time to protecting our precious home.

I just learned that with global warming the melting glaciers are releasing frozen stores of banned chemicals, such as DDT, in the Antarctic, that is being found in high concentrations in penguins. Here's my post along with video news:
http://forum.stopthespray.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1394

Today, the U.S. Senate was supposed to be considering Senate Bill #3036 - a bill to direct the EPA to establish a program to decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and for other purposes. Instead, since the Bush Administration and the Republicans do not want to put tighter restrictions on the EPA, auto industry, and oil companies, the Senate Republicans shut down debate on the bill this afternoon by forcing the Senate clerk to read aloud the entire 500 page global warming bill.

Meanwhile, the glaciers melt and Silent Spring becomes ever closer to reality.

this post got to me as i struggle daily to groom myself and get out at 3 or 4 in the afternoon, of course people won't be okay after 450 sprays! what an absurd and stupid thing to do to people.

i personally refuse to be exposed again and will move if need be but some people can't leave and i really really worry about them especially if they are already sick and u are right, this is not a club they would want to join because sometimes we are the barely living and we really have a lot to offer

thank u for continuing to crank out these poignant and much needed articles.
