Hi Donna,
Yes, the idea of alerting people by mail that they are going to be subjected to a bio-chemical attack is absurd. Air-raid sirens would get the point across better.

One thing I want to clarify, in case I've not been clear - I was not in the Central Coast during the 2007 spraying. Your comment above makes me think you got this idea somehow. No, I wasn't there.

we here in santa cruz were hardly warned. a lot of people did not receive their mailings. i ignored the package from the cdfa, i thought it was junk mail. we didn't hear a whole lot of what happened in monterey and i didn't really wake up till people started posting ingredients of the spray and its warning labels.

i came across your blog when i was looking for places with clean air to escape to and i didnt realize you were here during the spray. this whole thing is a nightmare.

i am very sorry too, Donna, and it is sad that we can't do anything in the normal way anymore.
evidently, months of research are neccessary before taking a trip or buying groceries to be sure there are no poisons involved.
perhaps haz-mat suits and masks will be the next de rigueur fashion items, and greenhouses will be an absolute must for us all.

Hi Donna -
Yes, you are so right, and of course, no one has made any provisions to warn travelers of their danger.

The whole mentality of 'do first, think later' seems to be CDFA's specialty.

I am so, so sorry about the illness the 2007 spray caused you, Donna. It outrages me.

Hi Mim,

I reported my adverse health impacts from visiting Monterey and Santa Cruz in Nov. 2007 to my Senator and Assemblyman, representing Brentwood (Los Angeles area). I let them know it was a crime not to warn me, a visitor to Monterey and Santa Cruz about the dangerous air in the month of November. To think I was there in large part to breathe clean air and write an article for my blog Chasing Clean Air. Had I known about the poisonous reproductive-system-interfering-aerial-sprayed-pesticide, I would never had ventured into those areas, especially with my particular health history. I mention this to you and your readers, because wherever we live, we need to contact the appropriate Sacramento-based representative for our district. It's their job to "protect" us and warn us about mass poisoning should we travel, in this case, within California. The government warned me before I traveled to Israel several years ago, saying it could be dangerous. I expect the same warnings should I consider a venture into a spray zone, only more stringent. I did go to Israel during a war, which was a piece of cake compared to venturing into Monterey and Santa Cruz after pesticide sprayings, which disrupted my body's normal menstrual functions and contributed to a migraine.
