Great letter. One thing I'll add--the numbers of potentially affected people from pending spray are tens of millions. Tourists flock to California. I only learned of Monterey and Santa Cruz spray because I was a tourist who learned after my visit about the spray, which likely is why I experienced disturbing health impacts. Should spray go through--we must stop it!--we'll have to warn the world not to come to spray areas in N. California for several years.

thanks for the reminder and the welcome. i contacted CCOF, which makes reference to 'foodsyou can trust". i think they should live up to that motto then.

i had planned to start my own veg garden, and have several rodale books, etc.., to study how to do it correctly. unfortunately, i may have to begin by doing it incorrectly, due to the urgency i am now presented with.

meanwhile, i am contacting everyone who has anything to do with food buying, as i want them to know that no one will want california produce or other food if this diabolical plan goes ahead.

and i am adding prayer, for all people and animals in california, and for myself and my own place, as i assume the sprayers will try it out here as well if your state is attacked.

Solstice-
Yes, the organic industry will be utterly demolished by this. It is very disturbing that USDA has told the organic farmers that they can still keep their organic status, even after pesticides have been poured on their crops. It's ridiculous. I have been eating organic for more than 15 years, and to me, organic means 'no pesticides'.

It is my belief that one of the most saving things families can do if they are able to move away from the spraying will be to start growing their own vegetables. Up until the 1980s, it was very common for people to grow at least some of their own produce. Then people started putting in lawns or swimming pools on their property instead - such a waste when you think that space could feed your family and, these days, cut your grocery bill in half.

This is one of the things about the spraying that is most heartbreaking to me. My husband and I had a dream of becoming organic farmers one day. But, if they spray, we cannot do this here. That makes me feel so upset and hopeless, and we know we will have to move if the spraying isn't stopped and we want to grow our own food. Few businesses have damaged our planet the way Agribusiness has, and we can take the power away from them if we grow our own food...but how can we do that in California if the ground, air and water is poisoned?

You are among many, Solstice, who will refuse to buy California produce. Would you please consider contacting CCOF and telling them this? They are against the spraying, but they need to hear from people that fighting the spraying is what they must do if they want a market outside the state for their crops.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. Please, come back again.

in addition to sickening people and animals, it seems to me that this spray will make all food from califoria inedible, and that organic food will no longer be organic, even if they figure out a way to tell us that it is. i do not live in california any longer, but i still eat food grown there, until june, after which i will refuse anything grown in that state.
i have noticed, however, that they are planning to find this moth everywhere, so that all of us can get sprayed, so i am doing all i can to inform as many as possible, including a call to Mr Carter's office.

That was a moving letter, Mim. Thank you. Also, I was in tears reading about little Jack Wilcox. I can't imagine the frustration his parents must feel.
ABC 7 wrote a better article after I challenged them and told them to check out CBS 5's article from 5/15.
Roy Upton's video was really informative.
Lots of work to do!
