Here we go. This is an instance where I’m feeling sick to my stomach to say, “I saw this coming,” but I surely did.

Today, the USDA announced that it is implementing a nation-wide hunt for the Light Brown Apple Moth. They will be searching all 50 states and Puerto Rico for the moth, and we can already guess what they will do if they find them.

From the first announcement of the aerial spraying of toxins on the urban population of California, I have feared that what is happening here would set the stage for a new policy of spraying human beings across the country. As of the announcement, I see this was an accurate fear and I am completely horrified.

This is the 21st Century! Human beings are just starting to understand that the health of the planet is vital. The Green Movement is much touted from pillar to post, but by living under a government that attacks its own people with the spraying of toxins on private citizens and their properties we have stepped back into the 1950s when spraying DDT on school children was seen as a public health benefit.

We are standing at a crossroads, subject to a government that is choosing to ignore its roles of public service and, instead, choosing to control and sicken us against our strongly stated wishes. The civic governments of nearly all of the California cities and counties set to be sprayed have made official statements declaring that they do not want to be sprayed. While our local public servants attempt to defend us here in California, our governmental agencies show an utter contempt for our lives and for the basic tenets of our constitution. And now, they will carry this policy across our nation, making forced aerial spraying of human beings a norm of the 21st century.

This must be stopped. We must not fall backward in this bizarre and sick way. Poisoning our bodies and environment is the most ignorant and shameful misstep that any civilization could make. It is an affront to the survival instincts that are basic to all mankind.

I call on the people of all states to loudly protest this violation of human and environmental rights. We need to teach our government that their actions are unacceptable. We’re all in this together now.
